Understanding Georgia’s Visa-Free Entry Rules (2026)

TK Counsel Georgia · 30 March 2026

Many nationalities may enter Georgia without a visa for an extended stay under Government Resolution No. 255 (and amendments), as published on Matsne. The list of countries and stay duration are legal facts—check the current resolution text, not blog summaries.

Visa-free vs residence purpose

Lawful entry as a visitor does not automatically mean you may pursue every residence permit category without further visas, permits, or labour steps. The State Commission on Migration Issues and migration agencies emphasize coherent migration policy; visa-free tourism and long-term work or investment residence are different legal tracks. Confirm sequencing with counsel and MFA / migration guidance.

Health insurance (2026)

From January 1, 2026, tourists must carry health and accident insurance meeting minimum coverage for the whole stay—see our mandatory insurance note and official tourism sources.

Overstay and penalties

Exceeding permitted stay or working outside authorized categories can trigger fines, entry bans, or enforcement—do not rely on informal “border run” advice.

Moving to a D visa or residence permit

When statute or practice requires an immigration (D) visa before residence processing, plan consular timing before you commit employment or property timelines.
